Martin Karlíček’s piano playing has been described as “…brilliantly controlled, wonderfully colourful and always imaginative.”
He performs regularly in the Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Canada and in the US where he recently appeared at Carnegie Hall. Aside from establishing a reputation as a dynamic promoter of Czech music, Mr. Karlíček’s solo and chamber music repertoire is wide-ranging, including contemporary music. Recent projects include a CD of the complete piano works of the young Canadian composer Andrew Yin Svoboda (1977-1994), as well as the première of a new piano concerto, Déviations by Félix Frédéric Baril.
Martin Karlíček has been a consistent prizewinner in competitions including the Smetana International Piano Competition, the South Bohemian International Piano Competition and the IBLA Grand Prize International.
A graduate of the Academy of Music in Prague, he also studied at the Utrecht Academy of the Arts in Holland and at McGill University in Montreal where he received his Doctorate in Music and where he now teaches.
