Praised for her “fierce artistry” and “poetic” pianism, “powerhouse” Winnipeg-based pianist and coach Lisa Rumpel is an active member of Manitoba’s arts scene. She has had the opportunity to work and perform with many of Manitoba’s leading operatic vocalists including Tracy Dahl, Monica Huisman, Lara Ciekiewicz, James McLennan, Andrianna Chuchman, Andrea Lett, and Lizzy Hoyt.
Recently, Lisa performed 50 minutes of Philip Glass’s solo piano etudes for the Winnipeg Contemporary Dancers’ commission of Looking Glass, choreographed by Idan Cohen, in which the “[p]owerhouse pianist … proved herself a warrior …. with nary a note missed” (Winnipeg Free Press). In spring 2023, Lisa joined three of her esteemed pianist colleagues in the Brandon Chamber Players’ 4-piano concert, Gay Guerilla.
She completed her Master of Music (Collaborative Piano) at the University of Manitoba under the tutelage of Dr. Laura Loewen and Dr. Judy Kehler-Siebert. As an alumnus of the Franz Schubert Institute, Vancouver International Song Institute, and Opera NUOVA, Lisa has been privileged to work with renowned musicians including Elly Ameling, Julius Drake, Roger Vignoles, Michael McMahon, Graham Johnson, and Helmut Deutsch.
Funding from the Winnipeg Arts Council and Manitoba Arts Council made these experiences possible.
