Ms. Jessica Yuma is currently in her second year of the master’s degree program at the New England Conservatory in Boston, under the tutelage of Prof. Marc Andre Hamelin.
Ms. Yuma’s orchestral debut was at age 11 when she performed the Mendelssohn Concerto No.1 in G minor with the EYO (senior orchestra) in the Winspear Center. Over the years, she has played with the Edmonton Symphony, the National Arts Center Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic, the Calgary Civic Orchestra, the Brunesis Virtuosi Orchestra (in Italy), and a few others.
Besides performances with orchestras, Ms. Yuma was a laureate (including 1st prizes) of several national and international competitions, such as CMC, CFMTA, Steinway Competition, Orford Award, the Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition, Canadian Chopin Competition, Coimbra World Piano Competition (in Portugal). In 2021, she also participated in the prestigious 18th International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Poland, as one of the youngest competitors.
Ms. Yuma has studied at well-known summer music festivals such as Morningside Music Bridge in Boston, Aspen and Tanglewood among others. She was also one of the CBC 30 under 30 classical musicians. Throughout the years, Ms. Yuma is very grateful for the support from the Anne Burrows Foundation, the Winspear Foundation and the Shean Foundation.
In an upcoming event, Jessica will perform the Poulenc Concerto for 2 pianos with Sara Davis Buechner and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra in April of 2026.
