Kannan Bloor is a Canadian classical saxophonist and educator. Specializing in solo repertoire, Kannan was the winner of the University of Toronto Winds Concerto Competition (2024) and will be an Emerging Artist for the Edmonton Recital Society’s 2024-25 season. Beyond his solo playing, he shows versatility in his ensemble work, with experience as a member of the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony, Saxophone Chamber Ensembles, and the Toronto Saxophone Collective.
Previously, Kannan was a private contractor for the Queen’s Own Rifles Band of the Canadian Armed Forces, assisting in performances in marching and static band settings. He has performed multiple outreach and benefit concerts in the Toronto and Edmonton areas with his saxophone quartet, The Nameless Quartet, and his duo partner, harpist Christina Kant. Kannan maintains a studio of private saxophone students in Toronto, and previously held teaching positions for saxophone and clarinet at the Newton’s Grove School campus, of which he is an alumnus. Additionally, he has had the opportunity to work with world-class saxophonists across North America and Europe, notably Dr. Timothy McAllister, Vincent David, Steven Banks, Claude Delangle, and more.
Kannan is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in Saxophone Performance at the University of Toronto under the tutelage of Dr. Wallace Halladay.
