From Toronto Summer Music:
“Four musicians with equally stellar pedigrees formed the New Orford String Quartet with the goal of developing a new model for a touring string quartet. Their concept – to bring four elite orchestral leaders together on a regular basis over many years to perform chamber music at the highest level – has resulted in a quartet that maintains a remarkably fresh perspective while bringing a palpable sense of joy to each performance. The Toronto Star has described this outcome as ‘nothing short of electrifying.’ “
“Aside from the amazing musicianship of the ensemble, the chance to hear performers that are also current or former members of some of the biggest orchestras in Canada is an opportunity that cannot be missed.” –Nick Sullivan, University of Lethbridge
“These four string virtuosos animate every note with uncommon power and passion as well as elegance. Listen and weep.” –Toronto Star
Winner of the 2017 JUNO Award for Best Chamber Music Album for their Brahms Op. 51 Quartets, the Quartet consists of: Andrew Wan, Concertmaster of Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM); Jonathan Crow, Concertmaster of Toronto Symphony Orchestra; Sharon Wei, Professor of Viola at Western University in London, ON and founding member of JUNO Award-winning Ensemble Made in Canada; and Brian Manker, Principal Cello of Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM).
