We open our 2024-25 season with pianist Dr. Ilya Poletaev, who is hailed as “one of the most significant pianists of our generation”, and the only Canadian pianist to ever win the prestigious International Bach Competition in Leipzig. Ilya made his ERS debut in February of 2023 with the Trio de Montréal and we are thrilled to welcome him back; this time in a solo piano recital.

Clarinetist Julianne Scott has performed and studied in both the United States and Canada. She has been Principal Clarinet of the Edmonton Symphony since 2009, and previously held the position of Principal Clarinet with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. She attained her Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from the University of Toronto, where she was a student of Joaquin Valdepenas. She then continued her studies with Yehuda Gilad at the University of Southern California, from which she received her Master’s Degree.
Julianne has appeared as a soloist with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic, Alberta Baroque Ensemble, and the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. She has also spent summers participating in a variety of festivals including the Aurora Chamber Music Festival, Sunflower Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, the Spoleto Festival, and the Music Academy of the West. Julianne currently resides in Edmonton where she is on the clarinet faculty at the University of Alberta.
Our annual Remembrance recital will feature the Edmonton Symphony Wind Quintet making their ERS debut. They will be joined by Sarah Ho for a performance of Francis Poulenc’s Sextet.

We welcome Kannan Bloor to our series as this season’s Emerging Artist. Kannan is pursuing his bachelor’s degree at the University of Toronto and will present our first saxophone recital. He will be joined by pianist John Alonso and Edmonton’s Christina Kant on harp.

The Winspear Centre and the ERS are pleased to present this year’s Tanya Prochazka Memorial Recital. Former ESO concertmaster Martin Riseley will be returning to Edmonton from New Zealand to perform alongside Edmonton favourite, pianist Stéphane Lemelin. They will be joined by ESO Principal Cellist Rafael Hoekman.
The audience will have the unique experience of sitting on the Winspear stage near the performance!

Join us as we welcome back one of Canada’s most beloved and well-known chamber music groups, the New Orford String Quartet. This time they will be joined by another stellar chamber music group, Edmonton’s own Garneau String Quartet for an epic performance of Mendelssohn’s String Octet.
